Minh
Minh was born in Vietnam, and came to the U.S. in 1975 after he and his family escaped the war by boat. They spent a year in a refugee camp in the Philippines before finally coming to Houston. Minh worked any job he could find until he saved enough money to open his own tailor shop. His wife passed away in 2019, and his two children, both now doctors, encouraged him to move to Belmont. Here, he’s known for fixing clothes, teaching origami, and always taking his time to help others. Minh celebrates Lunar New Year by wearing traditional clothes, and giving out paper cranes. Minh says daily meditation keeps him grounded, and he often shares the lesson that helped him through the hardest years:
“When you lose everything, you learn what cannot be taken, your mind and your kindness.”
To him, being human means trying to “mend the torn places.”
